My Personal Top 10 Anime (Currently)

#2 King of the Braves: GaoGaiGar

FLASHING LIGHTS WARNING

GaoGaiGar, that is the name of (in my opinion) the penultimate Mecha anime. GaoGairGar does everything a Mecha anime should. It has giant robot battles in the middles of cities, cool upgrades for the robots, a beautiful attention to detail, and one of the best combination sequences in anime.

Many would argue that GaoGaiGar is an anime directed at children because of its “monster of the week” formula and all its toy merchandise. I would argue that this is an anime for all ages due to the topics and themes that it covers. Each monster of the week is nothing more than a disgruntled human who gave into their negative emotions. Someone who lost their job because they were framed, someone furious over the fact that their parents died and the insurance company screwed them out of collecting their life insurance, or getting constant harassment because they’re overweight. You could be the monster, born from nothing other than your bad lot in life. The monsters aren’t pure evil, they’re just unlucky souls who got taken advantage of.

Unlike Superman, the anime is very conscious about collateral damage and takes steps in every episode to minimize the amount of damage that is dealt to the surrounding city. Despite this being a dumb anime for kids, it is surprisingly thoughtful and considerate about the themes is presents. This anime also secures it high placing because I really enjoy mechs. If it wasn’t obvious from the past 3 anime containing mechs in them.
